This work was a breakthrough piece for me as it was a successful synthesis of painterly representation, and abstract expressionism. I utilized washes of liquified charcoal with traditional drawing techniques.
The subject, Maggie, is a sweet bovine at our local petting zoo. She gently approaches us when we visit, letting us pet her though the fence. I wanted to portray her dignified but also suggest her captivity and isolation.
